Roosevelt Collection Mural

The Roosevelt Collection is Chicago's best Movie Theatre. It's a super high traffic area and a fantastic commission. For this project I worked with the 8th Grade girls at The British International School of Chicago. The design was going to be a hit but I had no idea how much of a hit. This mural is a social media superstar. we all live here murals usually show up quickly on social media once they're done. However, this mural wouldn't even wait for it to be done. People were posing with the stripes as soon as we could get them on the wall. My original concept was to drop different rotations of the planet earth onto this backdrop. Since families often go to the movies together, I wanted to create an opportunity to bridge generation gaps by encouraging people to create and share animated gifs of the spinning planet. However, the client was so thrilled with the amount of pictures people were taking of just the stripes that they asked if I would just leave it without. Just goes to show how good a good idea can be that even before it's finished it's better than good enough.
